New Fantasyland at Disney’s Magic Kingdom
With a 4 year old girl and 5 year old boy, the main draw to Disney’s Magic Kingdom is Fantasyland. Old Fantasyland has recently been transformed and updated. To say the least, it is a mind blowing change.
Here are my favourite rides and attractions:
I’m almost doing you a disfavour by writing about this attraction. I went in not knowing what it was and was completely blown away. I will keep some surprises but will tell you that this is a do not miss attraction whether or not you have children.
This attraction shows how far technology and animation at Disney has come. Fictional characters Wardrobe and Lumiere come alive to interact with the children (and some adults). Then everyone surprises Belle with the story of how she and the Beast fell in love.
Kids are picked to play numerous parts and all the kids are invited to participate. Charlie was lucky enough to be picked to play the beast.
The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is the talk of town at the Magic Kingdom. Like most Magic Kingdom rides, the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is a roller coaster as well as a story and people of all ages will love it. For 5 things you need to now about the new ride, check out this review by my friend Rebecca from R We There Yet Mom?
Hidden underneath Belle and the Beast’s castle in New Fantasyland, Be Our Guest restaurant does not disappoint. During the day it is a quick service restaurant and at night a sit down dinner. Guests quickly order their own food via kiosk and the food magically arrives at which ever table you choose. The restaurant is broken up into three areas: the main dining room of the castle, the West Wing, and the Rose Gallery. The rose from the film is featured in the West Wing and every time a petal falls the portrait of the prince transforms a little more into a portrait of the Beast.
We visited the restaurant around 1:45 pm and although it was busy, there was a lot of room inside to sit. We chose to sit in the Rose Gallery and after lunch the kids rested on the comfortable bench for about 45 minutes out of the hot Florida sun. Another nice addition is that Be Our Guest serves a selection of wine and Beer during dinner service. It is the only places in all of the Magic Kingdom to offer any alcoholic beverages.
Planning your visit to New Fantasy Land
When visiting the Magic Kingdom, especially with younger children, plan at least 2 days in New Fantasyland. From refurbished Disney classics like Dumbo to brand new rides like Under the Sea and the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, you won’t want to miss a thing. I love that Disney even thought to put in a splash pad, Casey Jr. Splash and Soak Station, to help kids cool off during the hot Florida summers.
There are also numerous chances to meet all your favourite princesses, princes, and characters. Be warned: Without a Fastpass, the wait to see Anna and Elsa from Frozen was as high as 380 minutes while we were visiting. I would recommend getting a fast pass or simply skipping this attraction and seeing them in Disney’s new Festival of Fantasy Parade.
Disclosure: I was hosted at Walt Disney World and invited to the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Preview Party. All opinions expressed in this post are my own. I was not paid for this post.
