It’s no secret that my kids are gamers. In fact, our entire household can often be found lounging and gaming together. As a mom, I often feel guilty if electronics aren’t monitored to the minute. The one game that doesn’t make me feel that way is Just Dance. Here’s why the newest release, Just Dance 2020, makes for a great addition of an active Christmas gift to any gamer’s Christmas list.
Just Dance 2020
There’s a reason Just Dance is the #1 music video game franchise of all time. It’s incredibly fun. In it’s 10th year, Just Dance introduces 40 new tracks including top hits from 2019. Expect to hear a lot of Old Town Road, Ariana Grande and more coming from your gaming room.
For parents, one of the best features of Just Dance 2020 is the Kids Mode. This mode dedicate to younger kids offers kid-friendly songs and special choreography to encourage healthy movement. The addition of cute graphics and dancing characters will get any kid moving along with the beat.
How is Just Dance an active gift?
The reality for most parents in winter is you witness your kids going outside less and less. With darker skies arriving earlier, it can be tough to fit in a ton of outdoor after school time. This is where Just Dance fits in for our family. Our kids are allotted, like many other kids, a certain amount of electronic time a week. Ours simply comes with a caveat. For every hour of electronic time, 30 mins has to be Just Dance. I’ve worked up a sweat along with my kids and find they burn energy and get active during gameplay.
Even googling Just Dance and fitness will bring up a variety of articles where personal trainers recommend playing the game to help lose weight and keep fit. For adults, the game also offers a Sweat Mode that tracks calories burnt and time spent dancing.
Tips for Parents
With over 120 million players playing Just Dance, the phenomenon is hard to ignore. The game is rated Everyone 10+ but is tamer than most video games out there. The rating reflects the lyrics in some of the top 40 songs that mention alcohol and or sexual content. You can check out the entire song list in the video below. For parents of younger kids, switching to Kids Mode is a safe bet. The game can be played on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Stadia systems.
Take it from me. If you notice your kids settling indoors for winter or on days where outdoor play isn’t possible, Just Dance is an easy solution for exercise and a whole lot of laughter and fun.
