As I sit down to write this, it is snowing in Toronto which means two things; its time to start wearing a jacket and Christmas is coming. With Christmas comes one of my favourite subjects, Christmas shopping. Toronto has a variety of options from the huge malls to all the local neighbourhood shops. Today, I want to highlight one my favourite Christmas in Toronto events that also gives you an opportunity to shop local!
Since the beginning of Leslieville’s Wanderlust event, I have been excited for mid-November. Truth be told, I love Leslieville. Its my favourite place to walk, eat, shop and enjoy Toronto. From bakeries and cafés to the iconic Ed’s Ice Cream and great restaurant options, Leslieville is one of Toronto’s best neighbourhoods in my humble opinion.
Each year on the third Thursday of November, Leslieville shops, art galleries and restaurants open their doors for Wanderlust. This year the event takes place November 20, 2014 from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
On the night of the event expect late night shopping at the local stores, sales, and wait for it wine! There’s also live music and some really cool opportunities to pick up very unique gifts. My sister-in-law and I love to head to Wanderlust together and come home with the most eclectic gifts we can find for the hipper than us people in our lives.
Art Gallery Crawl
This year Leslieville’s Wanderlust has stepped it up a notch with a second day of events on Sunday November 23rd, 2014 from 10 am to 6 pm. This second event will feature a Gallery Crawl, Tasting Tour and festive dining. The art galleries themselves will be open from noon until 6 pm and the guided tour will take you through five contemporary art galleries in Leslieville to showcase local art. The tour starts at one of my favourite Leslieville something for everyone stores Atomic Toybot at 3:30 pm.
Anyone who knows Leslieville knows that this is a neighbourhood with incredibly good food. From the high-end restaurants like Gio Rana’s (the nose) and Ruby WatchCo. to the incredibly seafood offerings like Rock Lobster and comfort foods like the bacon sandwiches at Rashers, Leslieville is a food paradise. To celebrate the foodie in all of us, Leslieville Wanderlust is offering guided tasting tours from 2 pm until 4 pm. Each tour stops at a minimum of six participating Leslieville restaurants including Goods & Provisions, Leslieville Cheese Market, Brooklyn Tavern, and Hooked.
The bad news is the tasting tours are sold out. The good news is I wouldn’t leave my readers hanging in the cold. I have two tickets to give away for two readers to join me on the tasting tours! Enter here and I will draw winner a week from today on November 20, 2014.
