As we were prepping for our #TO2Texas road trip, one of the hotel chains I was really excited to visit was the Kimpton. I had heard a lot about the chain from travel savvy friends and was excited to experience it for myself. Of course I was slightly nervous about bringing kids to it but I was pleasantly surprised by how much we all loved it. Here is my review of our first of two stays at Kimpton hotels this summer, the Hotel Monaco.
Location Location Location
The Hotel Monaco is located across the street from the National Portrait Gallery and in walking distance to Chinatown and the National Mall. Each time we stepped outside the hotel we found something new within walking distance to enjoy. We had quick access to museums, historical sights, food and shopping. A great location for family travellers.
We stayed in a Mediterranean Suite at the Kimpton and loved everything about it. The room was spotless, modern and quite large. The kids had a separate bedroom and television which gave me space to rest, unwind and blog. The hotel used to be a large post office and the rooms have fabulously tall ceilings. I loved looking around the room and the hotel at the old architecture hiding behind the modern furnishings.
On the road, it can be difficult to eat healthy and particularly feed the kids healthy foods. I loved that the in-room menu at the Hotel Monaco had a variety of healthy choices that the kids would eat and enjoy. We shared dishes of quinoa, chicken and fresh vegetables. The food also was extremely reasonably priced for room service.
From the moment we pulled up to the Hotel Monaco, everyone treated us well. The kids were welcomed with cookies and postcards and we quickly settled in to the Kimpton. The hotel delivered a pet goldfish so that we wouldn’t be lonely and made sure our every needs were met. The staff also had great recommendations for things to do in Washington, DC. It seemed like every time we left the room, the maid service would immediately arrive and make everything fresh and clean for our return. I never felt out of place with the kids.
One of the most wonderful parts of the hotel is the reception space where people meet and mingle. The kids loved grabbing fresh ice water with lemon and fruit and it was a treat to have somewhere comfortable to rest our feet after a day on the town.
The Hotel Monaco
The Hotel Monaco is a great hotel to stay in with kids. It was nice to get a break from the chain family hotels and stay in a boutique hotel. Have you stayed in a Kimpton with kids? If not, give it a try. I am sure you will love it as much as we did.
